Do Job Interviews Measure Sight Reading - Workology

Do Job Interviews Measure Sight Reading How to Interview Select the Right Candidate How to Interview Select the Right Candidate If you don’t play music you may not know what sight reading is, as I didn’t. Seth Godin wrote a short blog post called Sight Reading, where he relates that when he was young he did not practice his music lessons. He said “I was so good at sight reading that while I was truly mediocre at the clarinet, I was way better than anyone who had never practiced had any right to be.” He thinks that “We often test sight reading skills, particularly in job interviews. In that highly-charged encounter, we test the applicants ability to think on her feet.” This made me wonder does interviewing measure sight reading? Given that over 30 years of HR, with heavy recruitment experience, I have interviewed thousands of applicants. I have also been certified in interview training. So I have sliced and diced the job  interview and hiring process. I interview people based upon the skills sets needed for the job. I have particular questions that are generally predetermined prior to the interview. I like to think that I do make someone think on their feet because they are not prepared for my questions. But at the same time I think I can make a determination on whether a skill set exists or not. As a result I can determine if someone is “sight reading.” Job Seekers Are Trained to Perform During the Interview Hiring Process But without that experience, without training in interviewing, an applicant that can “sight read”, that thinks well on their feet, can often convince an inexperienced interviewer that they are the proper candidate. It is important to remember that candidates that have been in the job search for any period of time often have more experience in the interview process. They have practiced their answers and they may be more comfortable in the process. So to keep the applicant from getting the upper hand in the interview process it is important to train your managers. As Godin says measuring someone’s ability to think on their feet is good, as long as that is something you need for the job, otherwise it is irrelevant. So teach your managers to interview properly, legally and effectively.  (Read his post on Sight Reading.)   Michael (Mike) D. (I know, it sounds dry, yet this man knew his stuff and realized how to give it a magnificent blend of energy and comedic relief.)I had seen his introduction on my work area, checked for glaring mistakes and oversights and approached finis hing a zillion different assignments. Streak forward to the day of the occasion, I had downloaded the introduction onto my PC. The speaker was signaled up. As I went to open his introduction, I understood with almost 400 arrangements of eyes on me (counting my chief, 75 percent of our directorate, individual staff, and so on.) the introduction wasnt going to load. While I needed to move underneath the AV table at that exact instant, I needed to think quick. I crawled my way to the stage and advised my supervisor to slow down the speaker. His look of bewilderment and dissatisfaction drill into my spirit. After under t10 minutes that felt like an unending length of time, the introduction was fully operational and the discourse was well on its way. In any case, I knew this second wasnt going to pass: I needed to address the mammoth, pink, spotted elephant in the corner.Own ItAnd heres where my next piece of guidance comes in: Swallow your pride and own it. The following day I willingly volunteered to go into my supervisor office and disclose to him what unfolded. I didnt go into the bare essential yet was direct. Indeed, it would have been a lot simpler to simply say, I dont realize what was the deal? or on the other hand avoid obligation by accusing innovation, however I picked not to.At that second, I believe I earned another degree of regard from my chief. It wasnt the first run through Id committed an error and wouldnt be my last. There are sure missteps you can deal with all alone and continue on ahead, however others you realize you need to address. At whatever point conceivable, apologize up close and personal and proceed onward. Dont beat yourself up. Take the warmth. Talk about. Above all, gain from the mix-up and decide how you can improve in the future. Now as a specialist, the connections Ive created need consistent consideration. What's more, when an issue emerges, its considerably simpler to dedicate myself completely to a furor. Same principles apply : inhale, get to, address, learn, and proceed onward. That is everything you can do.

They dread that their obligation might conceivably be overpowering, so they frequently abstain from computing total assets. But Jacobs says knowing your total assets what you have in resources in the wake of taking away your obligations is the quickest method to make unobtrusive movements to quicken reserve funds and budgetary development. After all, Jacobs brings up, you may have more cash to contribute than you might suspect you do. What's more, on the off chance that you don't, realizing your beginning stage can push you toward squaring away obligation. While you can work with a money related proficient, it's sufficiently simple to do the math all alone: aggregate up your advantages (hings, for example, your speculations, home or vehicle you own, and whatever else that you could transform into money) and your liabilities (Visa obligation, school credits, vehicle installments, and different obligations). At that point, deduct your liabilities from your benefits. That number is your total assets. As indicated by Jacobs, since you have that number, regardless of how high or low or in any event, upsetting that it might be, it gives you a beginning stage to develop from and assists with making a caring desire to move quickly for developing that number at this point. Another number you have to know before you begin sparing is your FICO assessment. Why? That number resembles an evaluation, Jacobs clarifies, that you can work to improve. Doing your score at any rate once a year will help you obviously comprehend and measure the advancement you've made, she says. It will likewise assist you with making better propensities, such as covering your tabs on schedule, and make you a superior cash administrator. (And with that certainty, you may think that its simpler to put away your cash for retirement.) Some banks and charge card organizations currently incorporate a free FICO assessment gauge as a major aspect of their administrations. You can likewise demand a financial assessment once per year from Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, by utilizing the site Annual Credit Report . Since you have a more clear image of your budgetary circumstance, it's a great opportunity to begin putting something aside for retirement . Yet, consider this: in the event that you need to consider doing it, odds are you won't. Jacobs proposes mechanizing your investment funds to facilitate your retirement stresses. In the event that your organization offers a 401(k), you can ask that a specific sum normally, a level of your check be straightforwardly kept into a record of your decision. On the off chance that it doesn't offer a 401(k), work with a bank to set up an IRA or a Roth IRA, and timetable a month to month direct store from your financial records into that one. Regardless of whether you start little, you will see your riches account develop every week which will make the influence and energy you have to need to spare considerably more, empowers Jacobs. On the off chance that you've done everything above you despite everything feel like you're not sparing enough, Jacobs says, you might need to search for approaches to add salary to build your reserve funds. While you will most likely be unable to take on another activity, she recommends asking yourself, What aptitudes, interests, or side interests do you have that can [make money] on a couple of hours seven days? We have more personal time than we might suspect, and on the off chance that we see that time as [money making] opportunity time, the sky's the cutoff.

How to Save Facebook Live Videos (and Good-Bye Webinars) - Classy Career Girl

How to Save Facebook Live Videos (and Good-Bye Webinars) If you havent yet caught on to the power of Facebook Live, you need to start now. In June 2016, I did five Facebook Live events. I used the events as trainings similar to how I would teach a class as a Professor. I even brought out the white board! The results were: Skyrocketed reach to my Facebook audience. Built relationships and trust with my audience. Created more content easily and turned it into blog posts and YouTube videos. Additional sign-ups for my email list and free lead magnets. Additional sales when I went on Facebook Live 10 minutes before my cart was going to close for an offer to join my membership sites. For me, its a strategy that I will now use weekly in my business. I will use Facebook Live to replace the webinars that I used to do. I believe webinars have become outdated and obsolete with Facebook Live. Why would I want to stare at a screen of slides and listen to a script someone has written out when I can see someones face and actually engage with them live on a training instead? This is how I was taught to teach as a Professor. You facilitate peoples learning throughout your training instead of just talking to them. With all the evergreen webinars out there going on autopilot with no engagement (or fake engagement), people are ready to engage with us even more. Many people are scared of Facebook Live. If you can tackle your first-timer fears and turn what you would have taught on a webinar into a Facebook Live event, youll be miles ahead of the rest of the people who are scared. Heres a hint: A Facebook Live is a million times easier and cheaper than a webinar. And you dont have to create slides! Just a little amount of preparing an outline and then dive in. Provide value for your community and stop saying you are going to do it someday. P.S. My opinion is that Periscope wont make it. The spam that I get on it is terrible and I am not a fan but I love FB Live to connect and engage! Here is a quick tutorial on how to take your Facebook live video and upload it onto Youtube. Then you can take the YouTube URL and embed it onto your website. I love this because you can use it on multiple social media platforms and for multiple purposes. Not everyone can watch your Facebook Live event live with you but at least they will forever be able to watch your replay on YouTube. The tough part about this process is that its hard to figure out and there is not easy download  button that I have found on Facebook. I dont believe that Facebook even wants you to download it and share it on YouTube otherwise this process would be a lot easier and I wouldnt have had to make a video on it. I want to make it easy for you to share your content with more people. How to Save a Facebook Live Video 1.  Right click and go show video URL. Copy the URL and open a new tab. 2. Paste that URL into the new tab. Then, make it a mobile video feed by deleting www and replacing it with m instead. 3. Now, play the video. Then, right-click and click the option to download video as. Then, download the video and save it to your computer. It might take a while to save depending on how long your training was. Upload the file to YouTube and now you have your new video on YouTube that you can write a blog post about too! P.S. The only unfortunate part is that the video doesnt fill the whole screen. I cant figure a way around it but if you know how, let me know in the comments below! Click here to download Classy Career Girls Social Media Calendar.
